About this journal

Feel first, then look.

Your watch or ring shows sleep scores, readiness, stress and calories every morning, all in the same confident font. Some are measured, some are estimated, and some are a company's recipe. This journal helps you tell them apart.

One or two minutes a morning: rate how you feel before you open the app, then see which numbers agree with you. Weeks 1 to 4 build your baseline; weeks 5 to 12 test one number at a time. Twelve weeks later you know your own normal, and which numbers to keep. No brands named.

How it works

  1. StartTen minutes: five safety checks, sort every number on your screen, and write down the question you want answered.
  2. Every morningOne or two minutes: rate how you feel first, then look, and mark whether the score agreed.
  3. Every weekRead two pages of science and review the week. At week 12, decide what to trust, watch or ignore.

What you get

  • 84 daily pages (12 weeks of 7 days): rate overall, energy and sleep before you look, then copy the numbers and note whether the score agreed with you
  • 12 weekly science spreads: three kinds of numbers, wearing it right, resting heart rate, sleep, HRV and readiness, steps, calories, heart alerts, night signals, blood pressure and blood sugar, when the numbers hurt, and who reads your data
  • Before you start: five safety checks, a sort of every number on your screen, a 12-week plan, Day 0 and a self-check on whether your device helps or hurts
  • Milestones: your usual ranges at week 4, verdicts in pencil at week 8, and the decision at week 12
  • A device-free week 11, to see how you feel without the numbers
  • Tools: an alert plan, a 60-second device check, home blood pressure the right way, ten minutes of privacy, and a page to bring to your doctor
  • A number guide with 35 numbers, Trust, Watch, Ignore at a glance, and how to choose a device by feature, not brand
  • Worked examples from Dev, 33: his screen sort, a hard morning, a weekly review and his week-12 verdict
  • Progress charts, safety pages and a quick lookup for when something goes wrong

A journal, not a medical device: it does not diagnose anything. Chest pain, fainting or an alert that worries you is a reason to get help, not to wait.
